What is Kansas City's Local Music Playoffs?
It's a multi-genre competition and music celebration created to recognize and promote local musical talent. A portion of proceeds from this year's event will go to Music & Arts programs in our local public school systems and will contribute to the Bands Across Kansas City Scholarship fund. Every year a scholarship will be awarded to one deserving area Highschool Graduate who has chosen to persue a major in music and/or the arts.

CALLING ALL INDEPENDENT FILMMAKERS!
This year Bands Across Kansas City will also be inviting local KC filmmakers to take part in producing short 5 minute montages on the 6 Finalists. Filmmakers will need to submit a demo reel by September 30th.

Bands Across Kansas City, The IFC, KCWIFT and ArtsONE will then select 6 filmmakers to produce the shorts. Each Filmmaker will be assigned to a Band Finalist. Music Montages will be shown at the Final Playoffs in November and Filmmakers will be recognized on stage. A GRAND PRIZE of $1,000 will be awarded to the 1st Place film/short. Local Music Playoffs Details:
The yearly competition is open to all bands of all musical genres from cities in and around the Kansas City Metro.  Bands must submit at least two original demo tracks to be judged by a panel of music/entertainment/media industry professionals. Finalists in 6 specified genres then perform/compete for judge and crowd votes at the "Local Music Playoffs". Artists are awarded cash and prizes.

Each Artist/Band registered for the Playoffs will have the words "2007 Competitor" listed under their name on the search results pages and their Band's Profile Page.
Judging will occur in phases:

Phase 1: On-line Judging
Judges will evaluate registered artists' original tracks, in each Genre Category (see designated categories below), they will then vote and narrow the bands down to 3 finalists per Genre Category.

Phase 2: Preliminary Playoffs
Genre Category Finalists will then perform/compete for judge/crowd votes, within their genre, at different music venues around Kansas City. Preliminary Playoffs will be held throughout the months of September and October. One finalist from each Genre Category (6 total) will be announced, these finalists will perform/compete in the Final Playoffs.

Phase 3: The FINAL Playoffs
Each of the 6 Genre Category Finalists will perform/compete for judge and crowd votes at an All Ages Show on Tuesday November 20th at The Beaumont Club in Westport.

Phase 4: View & Vote
For 2 weeks following the Final Playoffs the public is invited to view each band’s performance on www.bandsacrosskansascity.com and vote one final time for their favorite artist.
Check back after November 20th for details about the View & Vote Phase.
You may only vote once from an IP address. All votes (Final Playoffs Crowd & Judge and View & Vote votes) will then be combined to determine 1st- 6th place winners. Winners will be announced in December.
The band with the highest overall score will win it all!

Genre Categories Defined
Artists will be categorized by the genre that most adequately defines their style of music. This year's Genre Categories are as follows:
Pop Rock/Classic Rock/Rock
Alternative/Metal
Country/Bluegrass/Folk/Americana
Blues/Jazz
Hip-Hop/R&B
Other: Reggae, Latin, World Music, Other

Bands will initially be judged on the merits of their original musical compositions & lyrics, as well as performance sound/quality. Songs with explicit lyrics such as obscene language, violence or racist undertones will automatically be rejected.

The 6 Final Playoffs finalists/bands will have the option to include 2 of their original songs on the “Bands Across Kansas City” 2007 Compilation Album/CD, which will be available for sale on-line, at area Best Buy Stores, and at local retailers and hot spots around Kansas City.

Prizes
Grand Prize: $1000 cash prize, $10,000 Professionally Produced Music Video (produced by Outpost Pictures), 2 original tracks included on “Bands Across Kansas City" Compilation Album, Band Promotion, free t-shirt for each band member and other various sponsor prizes!

2nd Place: $500 cash prize, 2 original tracks included on “Bands Across Kansas City" Compilation Album, Band Promotion, free t-shirt for each band member and other various sponsor prizes!

3rd Place: $250 cash prize, 2 orginal tracks included on “Bands Across Kansas City" Compilation Album, Band Promotion, free t-shirt for each band member and other various sponsor prizes!

4th – 6th Place: $50 cash prize, 2 original tracks included on “Bands Across Kansas City" Compilation Album, Band Promotion, free t-shirt for each band member and other various sponsor prizes!

All bands (non-winners too) may be presented with the opportunity to license & market their music through Bands Across America™. Artists’ original works are made available for use on film, corporate, radio broadcast, television commercials/promos, television shows and internet. Artists’ are paid a per usage licensing fee and gain additional exposure to all types of creative professionals.
